About Combined Defence Services (CDS)

CDS is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission to admit the candidates in the three wings of Indian forces- Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force along with OTA (Officers Training Academy). The exam is conducted twice a year to select the candidates to join the Indian defence forces.

Exam and Selection

Once the process of submitting the application is complete, the selected candidates are called to appear for the written test. On the basis of the scores that candidates achieve in their written exam a merit list is prepared by all the successful candidates.

Other than the written exam, which is common for all the verticals, the selection process may vary based on the vertical the candidate is willing to join. For example, there is a Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PBAT) conducted to check if the candidate is fit to join the group of fine pilots in Indian Air Force.

The UPSC has conducted the second CDS exams on 26th October 2014 to admit the candidates into different defence academies. The result of the written exam is finally declared by UPSC and posted on its official website.
